Transfer, Visiting and Exchange Admissions
Vermont Law School welcomes applicants from other ABA approved law schools. Transfer, visiting and exchange students from other law schools are eligible to participate in Vermont's Semester in Practice (SiP) program. Transfer Information
Transfer applicants may enroll any semester; fall, spring or summer. There is no application deadline; files are reviewed when complete. Typically, transfer applicants must be in the top half of the first year class in order to be admitted to VLS.
Credits received at other law schools transfer at the discretion of the VLS Registrar.Additional information about the joint and dual degree programs is on the JD Admissions page.
Transfer Applicants may submit an application either through the LSAC online application process or by printing out the Transfer Application (.pdf) form. The application file is considered to be complete when the following items have been received in the Admissions Office.
- Completed application form
- $ 60 application fee
- Professional resume or curriculum vitae
- Essays as described in the application
- Current LSDAS report from LSAC
- Two letters of recommendation – one must be from a law school professor
- Law school letter of good standing
- Law school transcript with fall and spring semester grades
- Law school class rank for the first year
Visiting / Exchange Student Information
There is no application deadline for visiting and exchange student applications. The Visiting / Exchange Application (.pdf) may be submitted at any time during the academic year and will be reviewed when the file is complete. The following items are required to complete the application file.
- Completed application form
- $ 60 application fee (not required for exchange applicants)
- Professional resume or curriculum vitae
- Short essay indicating why you are interested in VLS
- Letter of good standing from the home law school, including permission to attend Vermont Law School
Summer Term Visitors
Students from other law schools who wish to attend VLS for the summer term only, must complete the Summer Registration Form and apply through the Environmental Law Center’s Summer Program rather than through Admissions.

Students enrolled at other law schools that participate in the Law School Exchange Program should contact their home law school Admissions Office for application instructions.
