Request Materials and Services

Interlibrary loan (ILL) service is available to Vermont Law School students, staff, faculty, and Friends of the Library. If you are not affiliated with VLS, please contact your local library to arrange for ILL borrowing from the Vermont Law School collection.

Interlibrary Loan Policies

Only complete and accurate ILL requests will be accepted and processed by the Access Services Department. Patrons will receive notification by email once the item as been received and is available for pickup.

Books will be banded with patron name and due date, and checked out to the patron. They may be picked up at the circulation desk. It is the patron's responsibility to collect the material and return it to the circulation desk before the date due. Renewals may be requested only through the Access Services Department or Michele LaRose. Not all lenders offer renewals, and occasionally borrowing restrictions are specified. Patrons are expected to honor these conditions and to make a renewal request before the books return date. Please return books on time. ILL overdue fines are .50 cents per day.

Articles will be clearly labeled with the patron name. Articles that are received on-line will be delivered to your e-mail address. Copies are yours to keep and the requester is responsible for "fair use" (private study, scholarship, or research) of the reproduced material.

Interlibrary Loan Procedures

  1. Before completing a book or journal/article request form, please check the Julien catalog to make sure the material is not part of the VLS print collection. Also check Westlaw, LexisNexis, ebrary, and Serials Solutions to make sure the material is not available in our online collections.
  2. Submit your request form as completely as possible. ISBN, ISSN, LC, or OCLC numbers increase accuracy and speed when locating material.
  3. It is the patron's responsibility to collect and return the requested materials in a timely manner.

Note: ILL's may take anywhere from several days to several weeks to acquire. Please plan accordingly as we cannot control fill time.
