Peter Clavelle ARD, Inc. Peter Clavelle (pclavelle@ardinc.com) is a Senior Associate at ARD, with more than 30 years of experience in local government. Previously, Mr. Clavelle served seven terms as Mayor of Burlington, Vermont—a city that is often held up as a national and international model for its work in the area of sustainable community development. Prior to being elected Mayor he was Burlington’s Community and Economic Development Director for seven years and has also been a City Manager. Mr. Clavelle brings practical experience in local government, democracy and governance, institutional development, politics, housing policy, and sustainable community development to ARD’s Institutional Development sector. He has held leadership positions in the US Conference of Mayors, the National League of Cities, the Vermont League of Cities and Towns, and several other organizations. He is a leading advocate for the sustainable communities’ movement and has spoken at numerous conferences and seminars. He has lived and worked in Grenada and was a team member on a local government project in Gaza. Mr. Clavelle holds a master’s degree in public administration from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University, as well as a BA in Urban Studies from St. Anselm College.
