NAELS welcomes the
Founders of the Natural Resources Defense Council
|
On Friday March 21st, founders of Natural Resource Defense Council (NRDC) will be reuniting for the 2008 NAELS Conference. An evening panel is scheduled to explore the founding of the organization, the organization's struggles and many victories. Each of the founders will be discussing their particular experiences and diverse legal careers, both with the organization and beyond. Straight out of law school, five budding lawyers with a passion for environmental protection came together to establish the NRDC. The organization’s mission is to safeguard the Earth: its people, its plants and animals, and the natural systems on which all life depends. Since its birth in 1970, the organization has grown to include over 1.2 million members and activists nationwide. NRDC’s unique combination of lawyers, scientists, and community members have resulted in the organization’s involvement in some of the most influential environmental protection cases and issues in the nation’s history. Be it the passing of the Clean Water Act, phasing out of lead in gasoline, protecting the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from oil drilling, or heading up legal action to protect polar bears under the Endangered Species Act, NRDC is a dedicated environmental advocacy group. NAELS is honored to have the founders of NRDC speak at the 2008 NAELS Conference. |
